31st of July 2017: Macroom G.A.A. Juvenile Update.                 Photo; Cúl Camp group with Seán Powter, Cork Senior Footballer.

Following a very successful Cúl Camp, training and matches resumed this week. The players were refreshed and enthusiastic and the teams recorded a number of very good performances.

U-16s, P2: They beat Clondrohid in a practice game by 2-13 to 0-10. They have one outstanding league match and have a chance of making the play-offs.

U-11s: They played Canovee in a challenge game in the Castle Grounds on Thurs.  29th and won 3-12 to 1-6, and performed extremely well.

U-10s:  1. Mon. 24th of July; they travelled to play Naomh Abán, Ballyvourney and played 2 matches. Oth teams did well and they recorded 2 wins.

2. On Sat. 29th July, Macroom played Ballinora in a challenge match. Both teams started brightly and the game was evenly contested with scores hard earned. Gradually Macroom got the upper hand and won in the end by a couple of goals. It took a great team effort from all the lads against a strong opponent. A feature of the game was the passing, movement and blocking of the Macroom boys. The coaching team was delighted with the effort shown.

U-9s: The U-9s also played Ballinora on the 29th and performed very well. Stage 2 of their league will commence in August.

U-8s: They continue to train and are fixed to play Duarigle Gaels in Cullen on Wed. 2nd of Aug. and a blitz on the 12th of August.

Other matters:

  • New juvenile goalposts are to be purchased.
  • Danny O’Keeffe will write a review of this year’s Cúl Camp
  • James McCarthy, GDA, will visit on 8th of Aug. to conduct a coaching master-class with the U-10s and U-16s.
  • John Ryan, coaching officer, is to arrange goalkeeper coaching in August.
  • Fund-raising activities are planned for later in the year.
