New Initatives From Rebel Óg Coaching

With the start of a new playing season comes the announcement of 2 new initiatives from Rebel Óg Coaching.

Primary Teacher Coach Education Programme

Rebel Óg Coaching are teaming up with Sciath na Scol and the Cork Sports Partnership to offer teachers the chance for some physical education based workshops. The initiative is aimed at teachers of infant classes and the GDA's will visit schools to work hands on with teachers and their class group. The sessions will be focused on fundamental movement skills and will help to energise teachers in how they deliver P.E. classes with fun and dynamic exercises.

Teachers will be given resources to guide them and will also get some tips on how to get children active within the classroom environment should hall or yard facilities not be available. Teachers will receive 3 sessions in total and will be given some sessions to deliver in between the GDA's visits to help improve their learning.

To date, over 40 schools have signed up catering for 120 teachers and 3,000 children between the ages of 5 and 7. Games Manager, Kevin O Callaghan feels "this initiative will have a real positive effect around the county. Children lead more sedentary lifestyles in modern Ireland than in the past and as a consequence, have poor movement and motor skills. By working with the teachers and showing them how to develop childrens movement skills, we know that children will have a better chance of mastering the skills of hurling and football in the future".

Club Coach Education Programme

Rebel Óg Coaching are inviting clubs to register for workshops with GDA's. Club coaches of u 10 and younger age groups will receive a visit from a GDA and will work on fundamental movement skills through fun and dynamic games along with the skills of hurling and or football. GDA's will deliver the sessions within the club. Clubs who have qualified for the Benchmarking 2020 Vision Initiative will get priority in booking dates.

In addition to the above, Rebel Og Coaching have teamed up with the Health and Well Being Committee to offer our development squads the opportunity to be part of a Health and Well Being Forum on the 10th February in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Speakers at the event will include Rena Buckley and  Stephen McDonald to name but a few with the emphasis on lifestlye management, nutrition and the challenges of being a development squad player. The Ladies Football Association and the Camogie Association are also participating in what should be a very enlightening evening.
