October 16th Juvenile Update   15/10/2017

October 16th Macroom G.A.A. Club, Juvenile Section, Update. Photo Competing teams in Hugo Casey Cup U-12 blitz.

Games;

Hugo Casey Cup / Under 12 blitz.

  Manager Stephen Moore and his co-selectors Geraldine O’Sullivan, Gerard Mullane and Michael Slattery organised a very good programme for the annual U-12 blitz. On a lovely day, four evenly matched teams - about 80 players - produced a high standard of football and mostly close games. In the round-robin phase Canovee won all their matches and Kilmichael won twice. Aghinagh beat Macroom. In the final Canovee continued their impressive form and were clear winners. Aghinagh again overcame Macroom, this time, in the plate final. Stephen was delighted with the efforts of the Macroom lads and described them as ‘a brilliant bunch’. The matches were very well refereed by Hughie Kelleher and young Eoin Cahill.

 The occasion was graced by the presence of Hugo’s widow Toinette, daughter Fidelma, grandsons David and Mark, and sister Regina. A tribute was paid to Hugo for his wonderful exploits and great service to Macroom. Toinette and Regina presented the trophies to the winning captains. Food was provided by parents, and Catherine Cahill and Teresa Kelleher were in charge of catering.

 Finally each child collected his/her bag of ‘goodies’ and went home; some were in great spirits and others a little more subdued.

U-7s/U-8s: They played in a monster blitz in Pairc Uí Chaoimh on Sat. last and had a great morning of football. They played Midleton, Bishopstown, Bandon and Blarney. Ronan Duggan was very proud to be the first Macroom player to score in the refurbished stadium.
