Feb. 12th 2018 Update   12/02/2018

Macroom G.A.A. Update 12th Feb. 2018.                           Photo; Tony, Cian and Olan O'Sullivan at Registration night.

Intermediates: Macroom opened their Kelleher Shield/Division 1 league campaign, after an absence of more than 20 years, with an away game against St. Finbarr’s, last year’s senior finalist, in Togher on a wintry Sunday morning.

Macroom opened the scoring a point from Tony Dineen in the 6th minute and  this was followed with pointed frees from Pa Lucey and David Goold, to leave the half time score St. Finbarrs 0-06. Macroom 0.03.

St Finbarr’s started the second half in attacking mood and a great save from Brendan O’Connell resulted in Macroom making a break up field which resulted in a Macroom penalty. David Goold’s shot was deflected up against the crossbar and back into play. The missed opportunity proved to be the turning point as St. Finbarr’s took control, with Macroom failing to score again. Overall this was a poor performance from Macroom. A vast improvement will be required when they take on O’Donovan Rossa in Skibbereen on Sun. Feb. 18th and Carbery Rangers on Sun. Feb. 25th in Macroom.

Macroom :- Brendan O’Connell, Kevin O’Dwyer, Paul O’Farrell, David Cotter, Michael Cronin, John Angland, Sean Kiely, Fintan Goold, Caleb Dinneen, David Horgan, Pa Lucey, Tony Dineen, Don Creedon, David Goold, Brendan O’Sullivan.

Subs:- Olan Murphy for Pa Lucey (inj.), Andrew Hegarty for Caleb Dinneen, Blake O’Gorman for Brendan O’Sullivan, Ciaran Murphy for Don Creedon, Michael Cahill for David Horgan, (BC), Richard Mc Sweeney for John Angland (inj.), Jack Cronin for David Cotter.

 Final Score: Finbarr’s 3-08,  Macroom 0-03.

Other items:

Registration Night: The 2nd session was held on the 9th Feb. and there was a very good attendance. Jeremy Kelleher (U-6s manager)was chuffed with the numbers for the U-6s and many are girls. He thinks it was due to the school visits, the public posters and the leaflet drop.

Juvenile Coaches’ Coaching: James McCarthy, G.D.A., will hold a session on Tues. night in the pavilion/Castle Grounds at 7.00 p.m. All selectors are strongly encouraged to attend.

Juvenile Coaching Session: Tues. Feb. 13th in Castle Grounds, 7-8 with James McCarthy, GDA.

U-16s: Thursday, 15th Feb. v. Dohenys; venue, time not fixed and weather dependent.

Intermediates: Sun. Feb. 18th v. O’Donovan Rossa in Skibbereen
