A quieter week on the playing front this week but there was still a few teams in action as the weather improved:
u14s
The u14s played a challenge game on Sunday evening in preparation for the upcoming Féile competition. Naomh Abán were the opposition and Macroom lost out but had some very good performances in what was a good game.
The squad that competed was as follows:
Jonah Dervin, Evan Casey O'Sullivan, Ryan Sabas, Mark Condon, Cormac Bourke, Colin Kelleher, David Burke, Aidan Lynch, Bobby Murphy, Jamie Murphy, Ruairi Kiernan, Danny McKirgan, Michael Oleksy, Martin Fitzgerald, Alex Geasley, Darragh Hogan, Rowan Mullane, Liam McSweeney, James Slattery, Oisin O'Sullivan, Minuk Kahpola, Conor Coleman, Jakub Milek.
The u14s will compete in Féile na nÓg Division 3 and have been drawn in Group B. Their games will be played in Ballygarvan and their opponents are Aghinagh, Ballygarvan, Courcey Rovers and Clann na nGael, these games will take place next Saturday 06th April, we wish them all the best of luck.
u16s
Macroom u16s had a good win over Naomh Abán this Monday evening just gone. In a game where all squad members got at least 30 minutes playing time and there was some very encouraging performances for their first outing of the year. They continue to train hard under a management team of Mark O'Sullivan, Tony O'Sullivan, Seamus Coughlan, Chris Cronin, Tom O'Sullivan and Catherine Cahill.
Premier Intermediates:
Macroom Premier Intermediates played a County Division 2 league game away to Kanturk on Sunday morning. They lost out on a scoreline of 2-12 to 1-12 but had some good performances as they build towards Championship next weekend.
The team that started was:
Brendan O'Connell, Michael Cronin, Rory Buckley, Mark Corrigan, Sean Kiely, Alan Quinn, Gerard Angland, Caleb Dineen, David Horgan, Tony Dineen, Andrew Hegarty, Ethan O'Gorman, John Murphy, Pa Lucey, Conor O'Sullivan. Subs introduced: David Cotter, Don Creedon, James O'Connor, Paul O'Farrell, Dylan Twomey, Olan Murphy
The Intermediates now face St. Michaels in the opening round of championship next Sunday at 2pm in Coachford and all support is welcome.
Championship in Macroom:
There is a first round game in the County Premier Intermediate Championship being played next Saturday night 06th April in Macroom at 6:15pm between Newmarket and Bandon, anybody who can help out and steward at the game please be in attendance from 5:15 onwards in the Castle Grounds.
Johnny Creedon RIP:
Macroom GAA Club would like to extend its sincerest condolences to the family of the late Johnny Creedon and in particular his wife Patricia, sons Sean and Brian, daughters Margaret, Patricia and Claire and all the rest of his family.
Johnny represented Macroom Senior Footballers and the Cork Senior Footballers with distinction and the club can only hope and try to produce footballers of his quality in the future, members of the club formed a guard of honour at his removal as a mark of respect to our former player and his family.
