Well done to all the Macroom teams over the weekend!

Cork Credit Unions County Football Leagues
Ilen Rovers  0-6   Macroom   1-10
Macroom made it two wins from their opening three County Football League Div 3 encounters with a well deserved win over Ilen Rovers at Baltimore.  Macroom had a nice blend of experienced and younger players on duty and will be happy with the performance in wet and windy conditions against tough opponents.  Macroom were good in defence, won the midfield battle and had enough speed and know-how up front to trouble a home defence which resorted to fouling.

Macroom led by 0-3 to 0-1 after the opening quarter, Patrick Lucey and David Horgan the scorers from frees.  It was 0-5 to 0-2 at half time, David Horgan pointing another free and Blake O’Gorman contributing a point from play.  Macroom had been playing with a strong wind and a very tight finish looked likely.

On the restart, the teams exchanged points twice, Pa Lucey and David Horgan from play for Macroom and Macroom made it 0-8 to 0-4 in the 41st minute from another free.  Macroom followed up with the vital score of the game, a well worked goal from Mark Hunt with the final assist from Ethan O’Gorman. Ilen had a point but another Macroom point from Pa Lucey saw Macroom firmly in control now as the final minutes approached.  David Horgan had the final score for Macroom and the team and management finished well satisfied with their 1-10 to 0-6  winning score line against a battling honest opposition.

Macroom: Brendan O’Connell: Kieran Condon, Rory Buckley, Jack Kelleher: Mark Corrigan, Seán Kiely, Blake O’Gorman (0-1): David Horgan (0-6, 0-4f), Patrick Lucey (0-3, 0-1f): Mark Hunt (1-0), Michael Cronin, Jack O’Riordan: Dan Creedon, Eolan O’Leary, Tony Dineen.  Shane Meaney, Darragh Kiernan, Johnny Murphy and Ethan O’Gorman all saw second half action and Thomas Creedon, Richard McSweeney, David Cotter, Darragh Hogan completed the match day panel.

Rebel Og Premier 2 FL:
Nemo Rangers  1-10  (13)   Macroom  3-5 (14)
On Sunday morning Macroom U15s travelled to Trabeg to play Nemo Rangers in their first league game of the year.
Macroom  are competing in Premier 1 this year, so they will have tough opposition.

Nemo took the lead but Macroom playing with the wind replied with a free from Billy Murphy. It was a very even first half. A goal from Coran Burns put Macroom up a goal heading towards half time and in a brilliant finish to the half Macroom had two further goals, one 3each from Coran and Billy, giving them a cushion at half time on a score of Macroom 3-3 Nemo Rangers 1-3.

Playing against the wind in the second half Macroom found it harder to get their scores. Nemo got some good long range points and with the game nearing the finish Nemo equalised.  With seconds to go and Macroom pressing for a winner, they were awarded a free which Billy Murphy converted and so the new season in the top grade got off  to a great start after an enjoyable and very competitive game.
It was a fantastic effort from all the lads and when the pressure was on they never gave up.

The team was: Gearóid Quinn, Thomas Hopkins, Cathal Neville, Robert Fitzgerald, Conor Nash, Eoghan Healy, Simon Condon, Jack O’Shea, Sam Leavy, Darragh Donovan, Billy Murphy, Troy Murphy, Jack Leavy, Coran Burns, Dylan Lucey. Subs: Caleb O’Connor, Jayden O’Sullivan, Tadg Dunne.
